Watchmen Promethea Crossover by nuriaabajo Watchmen Promethea Crossover by nuriaabajo
:icondonotuseplz::iconmyartplz:

«I am PROMETHEA, art's fiercest spark...I am all inspiration...all desire. Imagination's blaze in mankind's dark... I am Promethea... I bring you Fire!»

«My name is OZYMANDIAS, king of kings: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains: round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, The lone and level sands stretch far away»

As I am a great admirer of the work of Alan Moore (man of almost supernatural inventiveness and inhumane by many critics has been forged throughout his existence); I wanted to make a tribute to his wonderful work, and even consider the idea of a crossover of two of his most iconic series, Promethea and Watchmen (which although very different worlds, and the thematic and character development is different, there are issues that are incredibly similar). But finally, I decided that was better to develop my own characters and my own stories, and not work on something that really, however good it may be, never be mine.

Promethea's story is the story of a myth, an urban legend, a woman who seems to be little more than a whisper to the world, a creature of the immaterial. She is the reincarnation of the imagination, half goddess half story, which was a Egyptian girl of meat in ancient time. Legend and idea in the present, Promethea physically resurrected from time to time in the body of a creator (someone who imagines her to the humanity and, therefore, each reincarnation differs). Promethea (America's Best Comics) not is possibly the best comic book of superheroes in the history, it not is, but possibly has the second and third place, which is not bad (but as there is no film, is a comic unknown to almost all readers). In fact, my first encounter with Alan Moore was in "Promethea" and not "Watchmen".

Promethea is intended to bring the Apocalypse, the end of the world as we know it: the End of the World that the "Babylonian prostitute" want to give to humanity is quite unlike that dehumanized the machination dehumanized of the Macedonian conqueror egomaniac wannabe (AKA Ozymandias). The Revelation of Promethea is internal, human redemptive. She (or "They" as there is a new "Promethea" every so often and, when they die, they remain in the inmaterial afterlife like dead heroines in their particularly Valhalla) aims to light the fire of truth, as the name mythological indicated. Getting that the men to understand the power of the immaterial and dreams, and are aware of the vast universe of the mind to break the preconceptions. Ozymandias, by contrast, has a very different idea of how to save the world; bury the truth under corpses, fear and lies (closest to cut their losses, as Alexander the Great did with one of the great mysteries of his time: A knot impossible to untie, cut in half with the force of a sword ...) Promethea is a goddess with a human heart (the imagination is part of the human soul), and Ozymandias is a narcissistic man who aspires to be a god and he has never loved anyone (even his parents)

From "Watchmen" not much to say, is a well-known comic thanks to the film (afilm interesting, but the graphic novel is better, especially with regard to childhood of Rorschach). Watchmen is much more than a superhero comic, is "the adulthood of the plot". this can represent power, fear or the idea reflected in the existence of a real "Superman" within society or be a scathing warning directed toward those who rely too much on the heroes and leaders of the world to safeguard us. Or that the utopia of a man can be the bane of many others.
By contrast, "Promethea" is a path to the discovery and hope, a path to the soul and spiritual beliefs or philosophy of Alan Moore (hermetic magician). "Promethea" is his heart and everything that he want for the world. both stories have the same "End", World's End, while the "End" is completely different

In many ways, Promethea is the "Anti-Watchmen" and Watchmen is the" Anti-Promethea ".

____________________________________________________

¡Excelente trabajo! :D

I must confess, regretfully, that I haven't read these books yet. But, your drawings make me eager to read them!
All of your drawings are very beautiful, and I love your coloring. You are very good at coloring, and you have a good sense of color theory. Your image draws my attention to the right places, and is very fun to look at (as it should be!).
I also love your idea (Promethea is the "Anti-Watchmen" and Watchmen "is the" Anti-Promethea "), and the way that you set up your drawing shows that in a way. I really like your composition here, as well. It's almost like a movie poster, or the cover of a very action filled book. :)
Very well done!
I also really love that you featured your 'Promethea "Bill"' drawing here, it really ties the whole image together. :D
I'll have to go by Promethea and Watchmen sometime soon ... XD

I'm glad to read your comment, I'm a little pessimistic lately with my art, Thanks you!
I'm glad that you like the color!I was a bit worried because ... there is too much color, everything is intense and colorful, flashy, and can be somewhat recharged.
I think the Promethea comic might be nice for you (although an exoteric story, but the end is very beautiful)and Watchmen has a version on film, easy to find (but the comic is better)

thanks again!

I understand your feelings completely. Still, I really look up to your artistic skills!
I really had to comment, seeing as how good it is :)
It's true there is a lot of color, but I think you positioned everything to make it work out well. For example, having analogous colors opposite each other works very well in your picture.
Besides, I think the bright colors make it more interesting and add a bit of action to the picture. I also really like the way that you draw shadows and highlights, and the smoke/fades that you have around some of the images looks really awesome. :D
Well, I have some friends who own a comic store, so I could have them track down copies of both for me XD

Oh, no problem!

thank you very much for thinking so, there is a lot of color, but everything to make it work out well. I'm also happy because you love the smoke/fades and shadows and highlights. Those details were somewhat complicated to think, Especially since everything works like a mirror (one side of the drawing is the reflection of the other)
For example, the characters faced (Promethea with caduceus and Ozymandias with his bloody sword,at the bottom) This objects, the position of the characters and the references are intended to be a mirror image

I want your opinion about the two comics XD

I really like your idea of having everything "working like a mirror." It's a very good idea, and you carried it out well. Not only that, but it adds unity to the picture as a whole and really draws all of the images together in a sort of coherence that's really good for the image as a whole. I don't know if that made sense or not... XD
Great job though!

I will have to get around to buying them, and then I can discuss my opinions with you. :)

yeah, "Working as a mirror" is a good idea for your designs of cards Alice. I think there are always interesting details on getting a "reflection", a feeling, a fear...

"I will have to get around to buying them"  these are some expensive price comic, I just would go first to the public library and I would try to get them rendered.
Because, maybe, this comics just not be to your taste

Definitely. I really like the way that you achieved that concept, having things work like a mirror, but still have the objects be their own shape and entity. Very well done.

That's true, and a very good idea. Then, perhaps if I like them I can try to locate affordable copies :D

This is magnificent, simply MAGNIFICENT! I know you've been working very hard on this piece for a long time and it was well worth the wait! I love the details and the symbolism you use throughout the piece, just crammed into every corner. Every time I see something, I notice something new and different on the other side, from the use of shapes, use of symbols, use of people, repetitive patterns, metaphors, and allegories. (You make me want to place wings on all my Watchmen smiley buttons now; you have no idea!)

My favourites are the following:
1) The triangular Pyramid Deliveries and the All-Seeing Eye
2) Promethea's magical caduceus and Ozymandias' bloody sword
3) The Kaballah and the Alien Squid
4) The blot-patterned butterflies and the flying smiley faces (and Mothman)
5) The "Doomsday" star with the blood drip -- sooooo cute and sinister!
6) RR and the stars
7) Bill Woolcott and the Comedian, as well as the flamethrower and the splattery gunshot
8) The female symbol and the peace sign at the corners
9) The coloured pencil sketchiness above
10) Promethea and Ozymandias profiles, love the style, love that they face each other, love the mirrored pose, love similarity of armour, etc.

I hope you will continue you work further! Story, story!

Thank you very much for the comment XD so detailed. Yeah, many months of work, surely it is time.
Well, my merit is to connect ideas, but those ideas are Alan Moore is a genius, he knows how to connect all in a wonderful way, repeated elements and ideas and make something "new" (the Egyptian symbolism, true or false messiah, the butterflies, the apocalypse, caduceus, "Promethea" is the name of a moth...)It is fun, to play with toys so pretty, discover a symbolism, a parameter repetitive, and use this (you know the feeling by RIG)

Many of the details inverse symbolize the difference between Promethea and Ozymandias, goddess-woman and man-god, they look like the face of a mirror. But are not equal: Ozymandias is darkness and fear; Promethea is light and truth. the sun in the desert, the night in the desert, bloody sword, the caduceus symbol of life, the cabala, squid alien, the star, the RR (a skull)...

Story? Well, I do not know, I thought I have the story. But writing is laborious and takes time, maybe some day I have more value. Or who knows? Like, DC comics decided to further exploit the Alan Moore stories XD

PD: I am very shocked at the outcome of the drawing of the murder of Bill Woolcott. It is very violent scene and the blood is so intense that I feel bit afraid (when I read the comic, I'm afraid for the scene) I think it's the detail harder of the drawing and I hope do not have to censor. Hey, And I'm glad you like Ozymandias's armor (his costume is not like the movie, but not like the comic,is a mixture XD)

"You make me want to place wings on all my Watchmen smiley buttons now, you have no idea" hahahhahah, hey, I think that sounds great. you can place the "winged smiles" through the roof with a wire
